Verre Eglomise: Gilding on Glass with Yuki Aruga 10.30am - 12.30pm

A short workshop where you will create an image on the reverse side of glass using gold leaf and enamel.

More Details: In this workshop, participants will learn one method of how to create an image on the reverse side of glass. Following a demonstration on how to prepare and water gild glass, you will transfer a simple drawing on to a small pre-gilded pane. Using a range of tools you will create an image and seal the work with enamel. Participants will leave with two 8 x 8 cm works on glass.

Illumination with Thames Pigments with Polly Bennett 2.00 - 4.30pm

Learn the art of gilding, whilst using collected materials from the Thames foreshore to create pigment that you will turn into watercolour paint. Your watercolours will be used to finish off your illumination of 'liquid gold' creating a depiction of the River Thames.

More Details: You will learn how to grind sieve and purify minerals into earth pigment, and then create your watercolour paint. You will also learn how to gild in the form of medieval illumination using gold leaf to produce a hand-painted illumination to take away, together with your watercolour paint, a handout with notes and reading recommendations, and purified pigment so that you can continue to purify more at home.

Gilding the Lily with Jo Mabbutt 10.30-12.30pm


Join decorative artist and gilder Jo Mabbutt for an introductory workshop on gilding natural plant material. Learn to gild flat pressed leaves and flowers, and progress onto three dimensional dried items, and maybe even a lily!

 

More details: Participants are introduced to some gilding materials and techniques using loose metal leaf. Starting with flat pressed leaves and flowers, you will move onto more challenging 3D items such as dried seedheads, cones and walnuts, and then finish with gilding a fresh flower.

Gilding Abstract Lettering and Embossing with Ann Bowen 2.00 - 4.00pm

Explore a fun workshop illuminating abstract letters on handmade paper and/or vellum, and a taster of embossing (if preferred) too.

I shall be demonstrating experimental and abstract lettering with a variation of different gilding techniques, gouache and pure gold leaf.

At the end of the workshop you'll be able to take home a beautiful illuminated folded card on handmade paper.
